Invisalign® Q & A

What is Invisalign treatment?

Invisalign treatment involves wearing a series of clear, plastic aligners that fit snugly over the surface of your teeth. Over time, the aligners gradually straighten and move your teeth, providing you with a beautiful, Hollywood-worthy smile.

Unlike traditional braces, Invisalign aligners are nonmetallic. Instead, they’re made of an FDA-approved plastic known as SmartTrack®. SmartTrack is safe for patients of all ages, including those with allergies. It’s free of BPA, BPS, latex, and gluten.

What types of issues can Invisalign correct?

Invisalign treatment is incredibly versatile. Drs. Murray, Awad, and Braden regularly use Invisalign to treat:

  • Crooked teeth
  • Overbite
  • Underbite
  • Crossbite
  • Crowded teeth

The doctors might also recommend Invisalign treatment if you have gaps or spaces between your teeth.

Am I a good candidate for Invisalign?

Our doctors typically recommend Invisalign treatment for teenagers and adults with mild or moderate orthodontic issues.

Aligners are a comfortable and convenient option to address most alignment issues, but you might benefit from another type of orthodontic treatment if your problems are beyond what aligners can correct.

In addition, Invisalign aligners aren’t an option for children under the age of 14. Kids’ teeth are still growing, which may complicate treatment. Also, many children aren’t mature enough to regularly clean and care for their aligners.

What happens during Invisalign treatment?

At the beginning of Invisalign treatment, one of the doctors develops a unique digital plan that maps out the exact movements of your teeth. Afterward, they take impressions or scans of your teeth and sends them to a laboratory, who creates your aligners.

A week or two later, you return to the office for your first fitting. We give you your first set of aligners, which you wear between 20-22 hours each day.

Every 4-6 weeks, you return to Murray Family Dental to get a new set of aligners. The doctor monitors your progress and adjusts your aligners as necessary.

In most cases, Invisalign aligners take between 12-18 months to produce the desired results. After you finish wearing your final set of aligners, you’ll transition to a retainer.
